The President has declared that National Santri Day is commemorated on October 22. It is for historical reasons. That policy strengthens the country’s morale. The National Santri Day on October 22, became a historical reminder of KH Hasyim Asy’ari’s Jihad Resolution. This is an important event that moves students, youth and society to move together, fighting against the colonial forces, which peaked on November 10, 1945.
Hari Santri was no longer a proposal or request from a pesantren group. “This is a manifestation of the rights of the state and the nation’s leaders, paying homage to the history of the pesantren, the history of the struggle of the Kiai – Santri. The contribution of pesantren to this country, is not counted anymore.

We also could feel the echoing Santri Day. We celebrated it in our different way. FORSA (Dormitory Students Forum) hosted a number of activities for two days. On the first day, the committee hosted Islamic quiz. Each grade in a team of three participated in this competition. The following day, more fun games were conducted outdoor such as volley ball matches, futsal match and bakiak racing.
Instead of volley ball, the participants used water filled balloon. The way how to play it was exceptional. Imagine when the balloon exploded the water sparked. The players were completely soaked. A pair of participant used sarong to grab and bounce the ball. Another outdoor fun game was ‘bakiak racing’. A team of three slipped their feet on a long wooden slippers and they made their way from start line to finish line. Afterward, futsal match was conducted. The way they played their match was also funny as all players were obliged to wear sarong. At the end, the champions were announced. All impressively ended with happy laughter.
Being together in such a joyful and worthy moment is real. The spirit of Santri Day was real. (Arifah Hilyati)
